The course itself is pretty and gives you some nice views of the ritzy charlotte neighborhoods, but overall the course is tough. Very hilly, poorly managed (mile markers off, odd aid station locals, not enough porta-johns, bad split between the 1/2 and full), and a somewhat impersonal feeling after all is said and done. Lots of work to do.
Thank you all for all of the positive feedback. This event wouldn't be possible without all of the supporters and participants such as yourselves. We are very excited about 2010 and have some great things in store for this race. Checkout some of the online check-out options for this year...Extra Custome DeFeet socks and DryFit Race Jerseys are available! We are working really hard and look forward to putting together another great event for you all! Happy training!
I am from Miami and this race out does our races without a doubt. The community works really hard to make this a success and each aspect of the event is done to the 9's. Great job everyone, can't wait to be back on Beech next May.
We spend every summer at Beech and are so happy to have a race to participate in. This is by far one of our most favorites and it is right out the door of our summer home! Everyone works so hard to put on a great weekend. Thanks!
Def think the idea of adding music on the course is an awesome idea...a good motivator. Also really like the idea of adding a longer distance race to the weekend. Maybe a half? Everything else was perfect. Wear my dry-fit T all the time!
I loved this race...when are you going to add longer distances? My husband only runs 10K plus and he really would like to see one on Beech. Kids had a great time playing in the gazebo and eating the great food. See you in 2010.
This is an awesome race, challenging but not too difficult. The scenery couldn't be more gorgeous with scenic views of the NC, TN, and VA all around! Great race management, perks (dry-fit T, socks, etc) and events for participants (pre-race pasta dinner, speaker, post-race cookout and awesome awards banquet). Beech Mountain is a great place to vacation or just stay for a night. There is so much to do! We were thrilled to be able to participate in race weekend festivities while staying on the mountain. Can't wait for the 2010 race!
